How to Count Cards with Colin Jones

First thing you need to know about card counting is it doesn’t involve having a great memory. However, it takes a bit of time to become perfect. The first step is to understand the perfect basic strategy. After this, the next step is to learn what is called the running count.

The first step to card counting is to assign a value to every card. Here, Jones explains a card counting system known as high low. This is what is commonly used by card counting team to beat casinos.

Let’s say you have a fourth of a deck, a Two through Ace of Spade. Four of these and one of these in every suit would be one deck of cards. The first thing to do is to separate all these into different values. This means there will be two through six, which are the low cards. These give a value of +1. So, when you see a 2, 3, 4, 5, or six, you should add one to your running account

The High Cards are the 10 through Ace. Therefore, when you see a 10 Jack, Queen, King, or Ace, you should subtract 1 from your running account. There are also the neutral cards which are 7, 8, or 9. These are assigned the value of 0 and you can simply ignore them with your running card.
